Graphite

These two are often shortlisted together and they are not really alternatives. CodeRabbit reads what is in the pull request and writes comments on it. Graphite changes the shape of pull requests so review is tractable in the first place. Decide which problem you have before comparing prices. Figures were taken from each vendor's public pricing page in November 2026.

Who wins what

Better review comments

CodeRabbit

PR summaries, line comments and one-click fixes — the review feature set itself is deeper.

PRs too large to review

Graphite

Stacking splits a change into 200-line pieces. Nothing in CodeRabbit addresses being blocked while you wait.

Publishing open source

CodeRabbit

Public repositories are free, so review costs nothing.

Many repositories

Graphite

Starter covers every repository in the organisation; CodeRabbit Essentials covers one.

Security review

CodeRabbit

Advanced adds attack-surface visibility and blast-radius review.

Strengths and trade-offs

CodeRabbit

Strengths

  • Free on public repositories, so evaluation costs nothing
  • PR summaries give reviewers context they otherwise lack
  • One-click fix suggestions
  • Security-oriented review on the Advanced tier

Trade-offs

  • Repository count is capped on lower tiers
  • Comment volume is high until it is tuned
  • Does nothing about pull requests being too large

Graphite

Strengths

  • Makes stacked PRs practical instead of a manual rebase exercise
  • Merge queue keeps the main branch green under load
  • All organisation repositories from the entry paid tier
  • Free for individual use

Trade-offs

  • Requires the team to adopt a branching discipline
  • AI review is limited below the Team tier
  • No benefit if pull requests are already small

What it costs

Annual pricing from each vendor's public page in November 2026, converted to five seats for twelve months: CodeRabbit Essentials $1,440 and Team $2,880; Graphite Starter $1,200 and Team $2,400. Monthly billing raises CodeRabbit to $30 and $60 per seat.

Which one, for who you are

Open-source maintainer

CodeRabbit

Public repositories, no budget

Public repositories are free, so review arrives at no cost.

Five-engineer product team

Graphite

PRs routinely over 500 lines, reviews take days

The bottleneck is PR size, not comment quality. Stacking is the only thing here that addresses it.

Team shipping regulated software

CodeRabbit Advanced

Auth and payments code, security review required

Security-oriented review and test generation are on CodeRabbit's upper tier.

Questions we get

Do we need both?
They only overlap on AI review, so running both duplicates that part. Decide which problem you are solving: comment quality points to CodeRabbit, pull request size to Graphite.
Can we do stacked PRs without a tool?
Yes. Chain branches and rebase by hand — the result is the same. What Graphite sells is automating the rebase chain and showing the stack. Trying it manually first is a reasonable way to decide.
Which is cheaper for a small team?
At the same headcount Graphite has the lower per-seat price. But CodeRabbit is free on public repositories, so if your work is open source it costs nothing. Whether your repos are public settles it first.
