AI slide generation: which decks it can make and which it cannot
The dividing line is who decides the order of the slides.
AI Tools Hub Editorial · published · updated
Where generation works
- Recurring status decks where only the numbers change
- Internal information sharing to an audience that holds the context
- Workshop material where speed beats completeness
- Reformatting a finished document
Where it fails
- Budget approval decks, which must answer objections in order
- Proposals, which must open on the buyer's problem
- Explaining a change of direction, which must establish why now
- Hiring or investment cases, where each slide is interrogated
Here the sequence is the argument. Let the model choose it and you get a deck that covers everything and persuades nobody — all the sections present, and it still does not pass.
Write the outline, generate the rest
Write one line per slide stating what that slide must land, then hand the list over for body copy and layout. Twenty minutes of outlining is far cheaper than rebuilding the deck, and the judgement stays with you.
Check the numbers before it leaves the building
Generated decks sometimes contain figures that were not in your source material. If a number is not in your draft, it was invented. Verify every figure's provenance on anything external.

Can it use our template?
Varies by tool. Where the corporate format is fixed, draft with AI and move the content into the official template.
