Editors' review
The benchmark for art quality and world-building — the professional default
Midjourney's lead is in texture and composition, and it has held the default position for brand visuals, mood boards and concept art longer than any competitor.
Basic is $10/mo; Standard at $30/mo adds unlimited relaxed generation, and commercial use requires Standard or above. Style references, aspect ratio control and stylize settings give you enough control to keep a brand visually consistent across a lot of output.
The practical blocker is the absence of an official API: automating it means unofficial wrappers, with the terms-of-service risk that implies, or accepting manual operation. Text rendered inside an image improved in v6 but still trails DALL·E 3 and Ideogram.
Verdict
The first choice for designers and creatives who put art quality first. If you need API automation, pair it with DALL·E 3 or Ideogram.
