Figma AI vs Galileo — inside your file, or a file you import?
These two are the design-led alternative to code generators, and they split on a simple axis: Figma AI runs inside the tool you already pay for, Galileo produces something you import. That decides most cases.

The short version
- Already on a Figma paid plan and want to move faster inside it → Figma AI, at no extra cost
- Want a stronger first draft to refine → Galileo, at $19/mo
- Need code at the end → neither; use v0
Figma AI
Included in Professional and Organization plans. Make Designs generates from a prompt, Visual Search finds reference work across your files, and layer renaming and background replacement remove small recurring chores. The output respects your existing components and libraries, which is the real advantage — and the reason its quality ceiling is lower than a specialist tool's.
Galileo
Produces a stronger initial mockup, exported with Auto Layout so it is workable rather than a flat picture. You import it into Figma and finish there. The cost is that it does not know your design system, so alignment to it is manual.
Honest limitations of both
- Complex layouts come out inconsistent in both
- Japanese text handling is unreliable in both — structure specified in Japanese often does not survive
- Neither produces production code; that is a different category of tool
Is Figma AI worth upgrading a plan for?
On its own, no. It is a reason to stay on a paid plan rather than a reason to move to one.
Which for a team with a mature design system?
Figma AI, because respecting the existing library matters more than the quality of a first draft that then has to be reconciled with it.
