Using AI-generated music commercially
These are the questions to ask; the answers live in each service's current terms.

Four checks
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| Does this plan permit commercial use | Free tiers often do not |
| Who owns the output | Some services retain rights |
| Can you keep using it after cancelling | Some rights end with the subscription |
| What the provider says about training data | Bears on third-party claims |
The third is the one people miss. Whether tracks generated during a paid period may stay in already-published videos after cancellation is not obvious without reading.
The platform's rules are separate
Video and streaming platforms may require AI-generated content to be disclosed, and those rules change. Check the destination's policy before publishing. Automated similarity detection can also demonetise a track that resembles an existing work.
Record what you did
- Which service and plan generated it
- Date and prompt
- A screenshot of the relevant terms, since they change
- For client work, prior confirmation that AI audio is acceptable
Keep the simpler option in mind
Conventional royalty-free libraries are simply less work. Generation earns its place when you need a mood the libraries lack or an exact duration — not for generic background music.
FAQ
Any check beyond reading the terms?
Ask the provider and keep the written answer. For commercial work, proceeding on an uncertain reading of the terms is the thing to avoid.
