What it is good for
- Remote interviews where call quality would ruin the recording
- Podcasts with several participants in different places
- Teams producing video and audio from the same session
- Webinars that need a recording afterwards
Strengths and trade-offs
Strengths
- Local recording avoids the quality loss of recording the call itself
- Multi-track means each speaker can be edited separately
- Covers recording through to publishing
Trade-offs
- Free tier watermarks the output
- Local recording depends on each participant's device and upload
- Editing is less capable than a dedicated editor
Editors' review
The recording method is the whole point
Recording the video call captures the compression, dropouts and echo of the call. Recording locally on each device and uploading afterwards does not, and that difference is audible.
The trade is that a participant who closes the tab before the upload finishes can lose their track. Brief guests on this before you start.
Verdict
The right default for remote interview content. Budget for the paid tier — the watermark rules out the free one.
