Intercom Fin
4.5
Fin is Intercom's AI support agent, priced per resolution rather than per seat or per conversation, and it can sit on top of an existing helpdesk rather than requiring a migration. That combination makes the pilot unusually cheap to justify.

What it is good for
- Support teams with volume and a current knowledge base
- Trying AI support without replacing the helpdesk
- Buyers who want cost tied to results
- Deflecting repeat questions before they reach a person
Strengths and trade-offs
Strengths
- Charged per resolution, so poor performance costs little
- Runs on top of an existing helpdesk
- Escalation to humans is a designed path
- Fast to pilot relative to platform replacements
Trade-offs
- Quality is bounded by the documentation you have
- Per-resolution cost adds up at high volume
- What counts as a resolution needs checking in the contract
Editors' review
Outcome pricing on top of the helpdesk you already run
Two things make Fin easy to evaluate. It does not require moving off your current helpdesk, and it charges per resolution — so a pilot that performs badly is cheap rather than a sunk platform migration.
As with every agent of this kind, the knowledge base decides the result. Current documentation produces high deflection; stale documentation produces confident wrong answers at scale.
Read the resolution definition carefully. Whether a conversation that ends without a reply counts, and what happens when the same customer returns, is where the economics actually live.
Verdict
The cheapest serious way to test AI support. Fix the documentation before judging the result.
