E2B
4.4
E2B provides cloud sandboxes for running AI-generated code safely, created through Python or Node SDKs and billed per second of vCPU and RAM with free storage. Sandboxes are CPU-only. Hobby is $0 with a one-time $100 of credits, up to 20 concurrent sandboxes and one hour per session; Pro is $150 a month plus usage, with concurrency add-ons above that.

What it is good for
- Executing code an LLM wrote without trusting it
- Data analysis agents that need a Python runtime
- Giving agents a filesystem and shell safely
- Per-second billing for bursty workloads
Strengths and trade-offs
Strengths
- Isolation is the point and it is the right default for generated code
- Per-second billing with free storage suits bursty use
- Custom templates mean dependencies are pre-installed
Trade-offs
- CPU only — no GPU option
- One-time credits on Hobby do not renew
- Pro's $150 base is steep before usage
Editors' review
Do not run model output on your own machine
The first time an agent writes a shell command, the question of where it executes becomes urgent. A sandbox with a time limit and no network access to your infrastructure is the correct answer.
The absence of GPUs rules out model inference inside the sandbox, which surprises some teams designing agent architectures.
Verdict
The right default for code execution agents. Check the CPU-only constraint against your design.
