Bakuraku, from LayerX, is a suite of back-office products — expenses, invoices, approvals — with AI agents doing the reading and routing rather than a person. It targets the part of a Japanese company where paper-derived processes survive in digital form.

Editors' review
AI applied to the work that survives because the law requires it
Back-office work persists not because nobody automated it but because the requirements are specific: Japanese bookkeeping rules, invoice retention, approval trails. Generic automation does not satisfy them, so people keep reading documents and typing numbers.
Bakuraku's position is that the agent does the reading and routing while the compliance shape stays intact. That is a narrower and more defensible claim than general-purpose automation makes.
Replacing back-office systems is never quick, and pricing is quoted. Judge it on how many existing tools it removes, not on the monthly figure in isolation.
Verdict
Worth evaluating for Japanese finance operations at volume. Treat it as a migration project.
