Japanese AI writing — dedicated tool or a general model?
For Japanese-language writing there are dedicated tools such as Catchy and Transcope, and there are general models such as ChatGPT and Claude. How many pieces you publish and how many people write them decides which fits. Prices checked November 2026.

The short version
| Situation | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 5 pieces a month, one writer | General model | $20 a month covers it; you manage your own prompts |
| 10+ a month, one writer | General model plus your own prompt library | Build the templates yourself and the dedicated tool adds nothing |
| Several writers, output must match | Dedicated tool | Templates and permissions do the work |
| Rank tracking also required | Transcope | Generation and measurement in one place |
| High-volume ad copy | Catchy | Breadth of short-form templates |
1. What each costs
- Catchy: free with 10 credits a month; from JPY 3,000/mo (100 credits); Pro JPY 9,800/mo for unlimited generation
- Transcope: free trial of 4,000 characters over one week; Basic from JPY 11,000/mo incl. tax (50,000 characters)
- General models: ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro are around $20 a month
On headline price the general model wins. Transcope's JPY 11,000 looks steep until you account for the rank tracking, competitor analysis and keyword research included — bought separately those cost as much again, which makes it reasonable for someone running the whole SEO process.
2. Three situations where the dedicated tool wins
Several people are writing
Matching quality across writers with a general model means everybody using the same prompt. Shared in a document, prompts get edited individually and output diverges. A template that presents the same input fields to everyone produces far less variance.
The writers cannot write prompts
Asking a sales or retail colleague to 'refine the prompt' does not work. Unless the tool presents product name, audience and selling point as fields to fill in, the work will not get done at all.
The surrounding work matters more than the writing
If what takes the time is keyword research and checking rankings rather than drafting, a tool that integrates those saves more than a better draft would.
3. What neither solves
Neither verifies facts. Pricing, free-tier limits and company names come out fluent and sometimes wrong, and no tool in this category checks them against a source. That step stays human whatever you buy.
Frequently asked questions
Is Japanese output better from a Japanese tool?
Not materially. Frontier general models produce comparable Japanese. The difference is the scaffolding around the generation, not the generation.
Can we start general and move later?
That is the sensible order. Use a general model until variance across writers or the volume of surrounding work becomes the problem, then buy the tool that solves that specific problem.
